As Chicago’s leader in music theatre for more than two decades, Porchlight Music Theatre has earned a growing and die-hard audience base, as well as national critical acclaim. Porchlight is known for its bold, edgy and intimate music theatre, offering audiences the drama, song and dance “up close” with Chicago and Broadway’s brightest music theatre talent.
Porchlight Music Theatre continues its "lost" musicals in staged concert series with Porchlight Revisits Can-Can, music and lyrics by Cole Porter and book by Abe Burrows with direction by Adrian Abel Azevedo, musical direction by Linda Madonia and choreography by Shanna VanDerwerker.
Set in Paris in 1893, it's the story of Pistache, a café owner who decides to feature the Can-Can dance on the stage of her establishment. Meanwhile, Aristide Forestier, a young, newly-appointed and over-zealous magistrate, decides to undertake a reform movement and sets his sights to clean up Paris, starting with a prohibition of the titillating dance. Will Pistache’s flouting of the law end her business—and her love life?
To enhance your experience, before every Porchlight Revisits production, audiences are invited to the “Behind the Show Backstory” multimedia presentation, created and hosted by Artistic Director Michael Weber, discussing that evening’s production including the show’s creative history, juicy backstage gossip and much more.
Tickets are $37 and can purchased online at https://porchlightmusictheatre.org, at the Porchlight Box Office, or by calling 773-777-9884.
